28.03.25 - Odd and Even Numbers

Today we have been recapping our year 1 learning of odd and even numbers. We started by remembering that an even number can be split into 2 equal groups (divide by 2) but that an odd number cannot. We looked at lots of different images including numicon to agree if the number was odd or even. For our task we played a game of snakes and ladders. Each square had a number question on it, if we could work out the answer correctly and state of it was odd or even then we carried on. If we worked out the answer incorrectly we returned to the start.

18.03.25 - Our Class Trip to Glastonbury Rural Life Musuem

Today we went on our first school trip. We were really excited as we boarded the coach and spent the entire journey looking at the different animals in the fields. On arrival, we met Sandy who was our guide for the day. We split in to 3 separate groups and began our learning. We then switched around activities so that everyone got to experience everything. We washed sheep wool and made it into felt. With the felt we made our own felt animal fridge magnet. Next, we had a giant feely basket with lots of old items in it. We had to guess the item and what it was made from. Finally, we went on a trail through the museum looking at all of the old farm equipment and exploring the local history. We all had a lovely lunch together and then went for a long run around in the grounds – the weather was glorious!

Finally, in the afternoon we explored the parts of the museum that we hadn’t seen in the morning. We saw the old-fashioned rooms and school rooms and discussed how different they were compared to our own homes and school. We all had a fantastic day of learning!

13.03.25 - Science Week

This week we have been celebrating National Science Week. We started our week by planting our cress seeds, one we watered and one we didn’t. We will wait for our results! Afterwards, we made caterpillars out of different coloured wool. We then split in to 2 groups in different areas and hid our caterpillars. Next, we changed areas and tried to find all of the caterpillars our friends had hidden. We learnt that the green caterpillars were the hardest to spot and the pink and yellow caterpillars were the easiest. On Tuesday, we did an experiment with milk and food colouring. We dipped an ear bud in washing up liquid and then watched all of the colours disperse. We ended the week by doing a magnetic challenge. We had lots of different coins and we tested them with magnets. We discovered that some coins were magnetic and some were not. We learnt that the metal coins were made of changed in 2012 and this accounted for the differences.
