19.06.25 Today we went on our school trip to The Somerset Museum in Taunton. After a long coach trip, we arrived raring to go! We met our guide and went to our school room. Afterwards, we split into 3 groups. The first group went to explore the museums, the second group designed their own shields, and the third group Got to dress up as kings, queens, and knights. Afterwards, we switched activities. After lunch we had the chance to split into smaller groups and spend time in the museum. we had a great time and learnt lots of information about knights and castles. |

In Maths we have been practicing our measurements by making magic potions. We used jugs and measuring pots to measure our different coloured liquids and then wrote down our recipes. We made lots of different potions and cast lots of different spells? |

Today we have been learning to weigh in grams. We had a range of different items and some scales. Firstly, we had to predict how much we thought the item might weigh. Then, we weighed our items to see how accurate we were. |

Today we continued our learning about animal survival by recapping our knowledge about habitats. We then moved on to learn about micro habitats. We watched a presentation about different microhabitats. For our task we went outside and found some microhabitats within the school grounds and reached how many different animals we could find. |

Timelines Today in history we have continued our learning about Magnificent Monarch. We began by recapping the vocabulary we learnt last week. Afterward we looked at a timeline showing the different royal houses since Anglo Saxon times. We discussed the differences in time of how long different houses Ruled. Next, we went to the hall with photos and dates of all the different kings and queens. We worked in groups to place them in order of ascension and were very surprised by the length of our timeline. |

02.05.25 Comparing measurements. Today we have continued our learning about measurements. We began with Miss Lantz listing a range of different object and the children stating if they would measure the item using cm or mom. Next, the children were given a list of instructions To make a tree. The instructions: The base must be 5cm long. The first branch must be 10cm long. Each branch afterwards must be 1cm less than the previous one. We made some fantastic trees! |

Today we started our new science topic - Animal survival. We began by doing a knowledge map of all of the information we already know. Next, we recapped our knowledge on habitats from earlier in the year. We reminded ourselves of the different types of habitats, what they provide and who might live there. Afterwards, we had some habitat questions that we worked in pairs to be able to find the answers. |

Today we have started our new topic of measurement. We began by recapping our previous knowledge of measuring using a rulers and meter sticks. We predicted measuring a few Iines on the board. For our task we had a list of objects that we needed to find in the classroom and then measure. |

Today in science we have been learning about plants that do not fit with everything we have learned. We watched a presentation which helped us learn about plants that are carnivores, plants that grow out of trees, plants that don't need soil and plants That grow underwater. To finish our science learning for this topic we completed a mind map highlighting all of the information we have learned over the last 6 weeks. |

02.04.25 Today we have been practicing dividing by 5. We started our 5 times able. Next, we practiced dividing by 5. We used our knowledge of multiplication to help us. For our task we had a mystery puzzle that we could only complete by working out the answers to the division questions. Once we had finished, we discovered the picture was a duck. |

28.03.25 - Odd and Even Numbers
Today we have been recapping our year 1 learning of odd and even numbers. We started by remembering that an even number can be split into 2 equal groups (divide by 2) but that an odd number cannot. We looked at lots of different images including numicon to agree if the number was odd or even. For our task we played a game of snakes and ladders. Each square had a number question on it, if we could work out the answer correctly and state of it was odd or even then we carried on. If we worked out the answer incorrectly we returned to the start. |

Today we continued our learning in geography by revisited Whitby. We began by discussing what the jobs might have been in the past at the coast. We listened to an audio recording of several people speaking about their jobs in the past. We discovered they were boat makers, fishermen, herring girls and jewelry makers. We completed our task by drawing a picture of their jobs and writing a description of what their job entailed. |

20.03.25 Today we have continued our learning on plants by thinking about what plants need to grow? We were focusing on grass. We started by looking at the grass in a shady, next in a dry area and then in a light airy area. We used the iPads to take photos and then came into the classroom to discuss our findings. We decided that in order to grow healthily grass needed water and sunlight. |

18.03.25 - Our Class Trip to Glastonbury Rural Life Musuem Today we went on our first school trip. We were really excited as we boarded the coach and spent the entire journey looking at the different animals in the fields. On arrival, we met Sandy who was our guide for the day. We split in to 3 separate groups and began our learning. We then switched around activities so that everyone got to experience everything. We washed sheep wool and made it into felt. With the felt we made our own felt animal fridge magnet. Next, we had a giant feely basket with lots of old items in it. We had to guess the item and what it was made from. Finally, we went on a trail through the museum looking at all of the old farm equipment and exploring the local history. We all had a lovely lunch together and then went for a long run around in the grounds – the weather was glorious! Finally, in the afternoon we explored the parts of the museum that we hadn’t seen in the morning. We saw the old-fashioned rooms and school rooms and discussed how different they were compared to our own homes and school. We all had a fantastic day of learning! |

13.03.25 - Science Week
This week we have been celebrating National Science Week. We started our week by planting our cress seeds, one we watered and one we didn’t. We will wait for our results! Afterwards, we made caterpillars out of different coloured wool. We then split in to 2 groups in different areas and hid our caterpillars. Next, we changed areas and tried to find all of the caterpillars our friends had hidden. We learnt that the green caterpillars were the hardest to spot and the pink and yellow caterpillars were the easiest. On Tuesday, we did an experiment with milk and food colouring. We dipped an ear bud in washing up liquid and then watched all of the colours disperse. We ended the week by doing a magnetic challenge. We had lots of different coins and we tested them with magnets. We discovered that some coins were magnetic and some were not. We learnt that the metal coins were made of changed in 2012 and this accounted for the differences. |

Mad Hatters Tea Party In Yellow class we have decided to have an Alice in wonderland themed day. We have played traditional tales bingo and pin the grin on the Cheshire Cat. In the afternoon we had a Mad Hatter's tea party - we found " eat me and drink me" labels everywhere! We ate jam tarts and drank fizzy water - thankfully, we all stayed the same size! |

Seasonal changes Today we have been continuing our learning about plants. We started by watching a video that explained to us how plants change with the seasons. We recapped what we know about the seasons and the weather. Next, we recapped our previous learning about deciduous and evergreen trees. Finally, we went for a spring walk around the school grounds looking for signs of spring. We had a checklist and we ticked off the flower/ trees we could see. |

Adding Equal Groups
Today we continued our learning by adding equal groups. We looked at pictorial examples And practiced adding them together. Sometimes we had 2 groups to add and sometimes we had 3 groups. We practiced our counting in 2s and 5s which helped us with some of the groups. Afterwards, we worked together to add together some trickier equal groups. |

What do we already know about plants? Today we started our new science topic ~ Plant Survival. To begin we watched a video all about plants. We recapped our learning from last year and remembered that a lot of plants start with bulb or seed. Next, we recapped our learning on deciduous and evergreen trees. Finally, We examined different leaf shapes and how this can help us Identify the tree. To finish we took a quiz to see how much we have remembered from year 1. |

Today we have been learning about what happens if we are in trouble on the coast or at sea? We began by watching a video from the R.N.L.I of the different types of rescues they have done. Next, we learned that rescuers were volunteers, and we learnt all about the service they provide. We all thought this was pretty amazing so for our task we wrote thank you letters to the R.N.L.I expressing how lucky we were to have them looking after us. |

To finish our topic on materials we have been learning about the problems with materials. We learnt which materials can be recycled and which materials Cannot. We looked at landfill sites and the issues they can cause. Next, we learnt about recyclable materials And materials we can reuse. On our tables we all have some food packaging waste and we worked together to come up with ways we could reuse the materials. Afterwards, we were lucky enough to receive a visit from some of our year 6s who had been making things from waste materials. |

This week we have been celebrating Children's Mental Health Week. Today, we have been drawing pictures to show how much we have grown and what has helped us. We drew our roots to represent our family and pets that are always there. Next, we drew our flower growing to represent all the other things that help us grow, such as our friends, school, and our clubs we attend. |

05.02.25 Today in maths we had been learning to make the same amount. We started by recapping our recognition of coins and notes. Next, we discussed all the different Ways we could make 50p. Afterwards we practiced making lots of different amounts. For our task we had some pictures of weighing scales, and we had to cut and stick the correct amounts to balance the scales. |

Today we began by recapping the previous weeks learning on a compass point. Next, we looked at a giant map with lots of different symbols on it. We tried to guess what that symbols might represent - we were very good at this and worked out most of them! After this, we each had a map with symbols on. Today we began by recapping our knowledge about paper. We learnt the process that wood goes through to become paper. We learnt about different types of paper such as printer paper And cardboard. We discussed why properties of each type of paper Made them perfect for certain uses. At our desks, we worked in pairs to test the properties of different types of paper. We had tissue paper, cardboard, newspaper, printer paper and sugar paper. We conducted an experiment Using water and pipettes to find the different properties. |

Sorting 3D shapes Today in maths we have been practicing sorting 3D shapes. We thought about all the different ways we could sort them, by number of faces, number Of edges, number of Vertices and colour. At our desks we had lots of different shapes that we had to cut out and then find as many different ways as we could to sort them. |

We started by going outside where miss lantz had drawn a giant compass on the playground. Next, we practiced following instructions to moves to different compass points. Afterwards, we went back into the classroom and had a map of the United Kingdom with different costal towns labelled. We answer questions such as If Ian in pool and I want to travel to Cardiff Bay, which direction would I be travelling in. |

Today in D & T we have been practicing making beach huts. We had a range of materials including card, lollipop sticks, straws, glue, and plastic. We worked in pairs to try and make a shelter of some kind. We found this very tricky but preserved and make some amazing shelters. |

Today we continued our learning On lines symmetry. We used mirrors to See the lines of symmetry on our faces. Next, we looked at different shapes and plotted the lines of symmetry. Finally, we made paper dolls to show how we can fold our lines of symmetry. |

Today we started our learning about materials. We started by recapping on our previous knowledge from year 1. We remembered a lot of material names and their properties. Next, we went on a material hunt around the school. We wrote down what different materials we could find and the names of the object. Afterwards, we compared our lists. |

09.01.25 Today in geography we started our new project, coastlines. We started by looking at maps and globes of the United Kingdom and recapped all the countries in the United Kingdom. Next, we went to the hall and looked at the United Kingdom on the large map. We discussed why we are an island, and we looked at all the coastlines that surrounds us. Afterwards, we had a map of the United Kingdom, and we labelled the seas and oceans that surround us. |

08.01.25 Today we have continued our learning on shape by recapping our previous knowledge. We named shapes by counting the sides to help us recognise the shapes. After lots of practice with different shapes we had a sheet covered in shapes and had to colour the shapes different colours depending on the number of sides. |

Today we started our topic of shapes. We began by recapping on the 2d shapes. We thought about the names of the shapes and how we know what our shape is - I.e. an 8- sided shape would be an octagon. Next, we discussed 3D shapes and the differences between 2d and 3D shapes. Finally at our desks we used our knowledge of shapes to make tangram pictures. |

Why we need soap. Following from our previous lesson we recapped on the importance of keeping clean. Today we decided to find out what could happen if we don't clean ourselves properly. We decided to perform a fair experiment. We had 3 slices of bread and 3 small plastic bags. We used gloves to place the first slices in a bag, a volunteer Washed his hands in soap and placed the second slice in bag. Finally, we had a volunteer who hadn't washed their hands placed the third slice in a bag. We then predicted what we think will happen to each slice. We taped the bags to our cupboards and now we will wait for the results. |

Subtraction crossing 10 We continued our addition and subtraction topic today by learning how to subtract a 2-digit number when we have to cross 10. We used 10s and 1s counters to help us see how the exchange is done. We practiced many times and made sure that when we exchanged, we were counting carefully. Afterwards we had a try at our tables using the counters independently. |

Science - keeping our bodies clean. Today in science we continued our learning about human survival. We started with a photo on the board of a boy and a girl. We then thought about how we keep ourselves clean. We discussed how we wash our hair, have a bath, clean our teeth, and wash our hands. Next, we thought of other things we do such as regularly cleaning our clothes, washing our bedding and good toilet hygiene. We watched a video that showed us how to correctly wash our hands. Finally, we had a practice at washing our hands. |

Today we had finished our learning about the United Kingdom by focusing on Wales. We learnt all about the Welsh climate and the Welsh landmarks. We learnt that the capital is Cardiff and the patron saint of David. Afterwards, we learnt about the Welsh traditions of love spoons. At our desks we made our love spoons. |

28.11.24 Today in R.E we made advent candle wreath. We glued tissue paper on to paper plates, then we made candles out of card. Next the children made flames for the top of the candles, they cut them out and glued them together. Finally, we glued them on to the wreath. |

20.11.24 Today we made clay printing blocks. We used different utensils to make marks in the clay and will be using primary colours to produce a print of repeated patterns. |

13.11.24 Today we have been learning at Northen Ireland. We began today by going into the hall to use the world map. This helped us to recall all of the countries that are part of The United Kingdom. It also helped us to locate Northern Ireland and Ireland. Next, we returned to the classroom and started our learning on the countries that make up Northern Ireland. We learnt about the major tourist sites and discussed each of them. For our task we watched a video about Irish dancing. Afterwards we had a go at learning the steps. It was great fun! |

12.11.24 Today we celebrated interfaith day. We began our day by joining a zoom call telling us all about the exciting activities that were planned for the day. Our day was based around the story 'little Glow'. Next, we watched some videos which taught us about different religions and how they celebrate with lights. We coloured our own candles thinking about when we celebrate using light such as Bon Fire Night, Christmas, and birthdays. After break we made Hanukkah pancakes. We peeled potatoes and grated them. Next, we grated an onion. After this we had to squeeze the water out of the potatoes and onion. We added egg, flour, salt, and baking powder and made a mixture. After lunch Miss Hutchings fried our cakes for us. We all enjoyed eating them once they had cooled down! We finished our day by making paper lanterns which we took home with us. |

Next, we learnt some more about Rosa Parks and the sacrifices she made to the continue her work. Afterwards, we learnt about Mahatma Ghanaian, William Wilberforce, Martin Luther King and Emmeline Pankhurst and Malala Yousafzai. We discussed what they were trying to change, how they did it and what sacrifices they had to make. |

05.11.24 Today we began our learning on the four countries that make up The United Kingdom.
We began by recapping the names of the four countries. Today we were focusing on England. We learnt about some major cities of England and some of the major landmarks. We recognised some such as Stonehenge and The Roman Baths. Others, such as The Angel of The North were new to us. Next, we learnt about the special events and festivals that are held in England. We learnt about St George's Day, and Pancake Day. Finally, we learnt about Guy Fawkes. As today is November 5th we made bonfire and firework pictures. |

Today we have been practicing our cutting skills and our following instructions skills to make a Halloween pumpkin box. We had to carefully cut out our templates and follow instructions to stick our boxes together, we ended by sticking funny faces on them. |

Today we have been learning to use different utensils to help prepare food. We used mashers to mash bananas, a greater to great cheese, a potato peeler to peel potatoes, a salty knife to cut lettuce and cucumber and finally a flat knife to spread butter on bread. We had a great time using all of the different utensils. |

Yellow class have been learning all about ‘Instructions’ as part of their English learning. We followed instructions to make a rocket. We had to read them really carefully and follow them in the right order and there was a lot of teamwork also. |

Today we decided to start preparing for Halloween! We made our own Halloween honks which we have used to decorate the outside of our window. We will leave them up until half term and then bring them home to decorate our own houses. |

We then used our previous criteria to discuss who was the most important of the people we have been learning about.
