Welcome to Blue Class September 2024 - July 2025
June 2025
19.06.25 What an amazing trip to the Ancient Technology Centre! Year 4 set off excitedly to their Viking trip on Wednesday 18th June. The bus came and we got to choose where we sat. Oh, it was great fun! When we arrived, we were met by Andy who led us to the mighty Long House. With much delight, we dressed in our Viking Tunics and clothes before learning and playing some Viking games while our feast of a ploughman’s was created. Inside the house, we found floating tables where we would sit for each of our meals. Mia said the ham was delicious and everyone agreed. After a hearty meal, we were all set for our jobs. Split into two groups, we helped prepare the stew for the evening by gathering and chopping the ingredients in one group while the other group made chalk stone wall, used a bow saw to cut the wood for the fire and a froe to split the wood into kindling. We all loved chanting BISH, BASH, BOSH as we struck the froe with a wooden mallet. Serah really did a great job in demonstrating how to do this. After swapping and continuing these jobs we washed up and had a wonderful meal of a vegetable or chicken stew with bread we made as well as some cheese and a pudding of stewed apple and honey. Some children went back for seconds. What great chefs we became in a day!!! The evening was spent playing games, eating marshmallows that we melted over the fire and then we each took turns to read a Viking play. Mrs Sherrard said she was very impressed by the children’s expression and fluency. The children loved sleeping in the Long House on sleeping bags and sheepskin rugs. What an experience! The next morning, flew by with playing games, tidying up, eating a delicious breakfast and saying goodbye to Andy. Thank you to all of the children and staff who went. It was the best trip ever! |

08.05.25 Year 4 had an amazing day celebrating todays freedom and reflecting upon VE day. The day began with the Brownies talking about a party they had been invited to the day before and how much they had enjoyed the tea party especially the cups of tea or hot chocolate. After a discussion about what VE day stood for and what happened 80 years ago, the children enjoyed reading and then performing VE day poetry. Much discussion was had about what made a good poem and what made a good performance. As a whole school, we took part in a 2 minute silence on the playground before listening to music from war time and enjoying an ice pole with our friends. In preparation for the assembly in the afternoon, we made union jack flags to wave. The afternoon was spent with some of our class in Rainbow club presenting a VE day power point to the whole school before creating electrical circuits that could have been used 80 years ago now that the black outs were no longer needed. We enjoyed our day together and at the end of the day, we shared what things we were looking forward to doing that evening with the freedom that had been granted to us. |

We have already had a great start to this half term. We began our English unit by becoming archaeologists in a dig to find ancient Egyptian artefacts which inspired us to predict the theme and content of our unit this term. Our new book is the story of Tutankhamun. We have already written diary entries, telegrams and newspaper reports. We can’t wait to write our biographies which we are building up to. In science, we explored how to make different circuits work using bulbs, buzzers or switches. In groups, we discovered we needed a complete loop to make the circuit work. Within our tennis lessons, we have started to develop our skills in controlling the ball using our forehand and we have managed to start rallying successfully. |

April 2025
In DT, we looked at the history of weaving and created some of our own using a variety of thicknesses and colours of wool. At times, we found it a bit tricky to go in and out and not become tangled, but look at what we’ve created In art this half term, we have enjoyed reading and following instructions to make Bankurato horses from clay. We looked at the different skills we needed to create our masterpieces and then made our own individual art pieces. Look at how proud we are. On the last day before we broke up, we enjoyed sharing our hard work from this term with our parents during a book share. Thank you to all of the parents who managed to come. |

14.03.25 - Science Week
Blue class had a wonderful week investigating adapt and change in Science. We began by in ICT, creating adaptations of habitats for Axoltls in Minecraft independently. We were all really engaged in this activity and we discussed how animals adapt to survive in their habitat. Four children following this lesson went home to conduct further research about the endangered animal and then presented the facts on Tuesday. For our next activity, we worked in pairs using the skills of logic and hard work to match animals to their correct adaptations. We all agreed that there are remarkable adaptations that allow animals to thrive in different habitats around the world in particular how polar bears survive in such chilly climates without freezing. Our final activity explored which materials were suitable to put down the toilet. We loved finding the answer to should we flush it away? as a whole class investigation. Lots of good predictions were made and we considered what would make a fair test. We discovered the conclusion matched our predictions. Only toilet paper should we flushed away in addition to our poo and our pee. |

06.03.25 - World Book Day Year 4 had a lovely day celebrating world book day. We began the day in our pyjamas and comfy clothes completing a word search. The race was on to beat Mrs Smeeton in completing it first. We then loved hearing the different teachers come and read a variety of stories to us. We really enjoyed the revolting rhymes by Roald Dahl. Our favourite event was learning to rap in mixed ks2 classes and then getting to perform on the stage in front of the whole school. Lots of us enjoyed taking part in the extreme reading competition. Excitedly we left school with our £1 book vouchers. |
February 2025
28.02.25 On Friday 28th February, Blue class were fortunate to receive a visit from Sharon the storyteller. Sharon told us her stories are not found in books but are passed on through many generations . One of the stories that she told was set in Yemen, in Western Asia. It was all about a lady who had 12 children. Because she was poor, she stole a loaf of bread and as a result she was arrested following instructions from the king. We discussed the morals of this story. Sharon told us that a story teller tells the basic parts of the story which are important to them. After she told us the second story, we realised that there are as many stories as there are stars in the sky. We enjoyed listening to Sharon's stories and can't wait for world book day! |

11.02.25 On Tuesday 11th February 2025, Blue class took part in the school safer internet day - too good to be true. We discussed possible scenarios we might see online and shared our opinions of whether they were: too good to be true, contact we didn't expect, asking for personal information, money or trade is asked for or if was not a scam. We agreed that sometimes there was more than one answer. We really enjoy our discussion times. |
||
08.02.25 We started off the month with a very interesting road safety talk from an external visitor to our school. Nicole and Lily asked some very thoughtful questions. We were very proud of them.
As part our on going improvement of our maths reasoning skills , we looked at a rainforest illustration in groups to create mathematical questions and answers. Joanna cleverly thought of an if question, (if there was 42 animals in this part of the forest; how many would there be in 8 areas of the forest. ) we do enjoy our goals free maths discussions. In our science topic we explored different properties of different materials. This unit is very interesting! |

January 2025
What an exciting start to January 2025 for Blue class. In ICT we have been looking at writing for different audiences and have begun to use different fonts and sizes as well as different types of media to create newspaper reports. Look at how proud we are of our efforts. In PSHE, we discussed different scenarios that were dangerous or not. So we could all contribute to the sessions, we used different movements our thoughts. We had a really good discussion. |

16.09.24 Year 4 have had a very exciting start to the term. Alongside an interesting study into place value in maths and non chronological reports about the Sneaglegator in English, we have been transported back to Roman times to discover what happened as the Romans left and the Anglo Saxons settled. We have learnt lots of interesting facts and can’t wait for our trip to Carymoor. |
