Welcome to Orange Class September 2024 - July 2025
June 2025
25.06.25 We had an amazing school trip to Gore Farm this week! The weather was beautiful and the children all behaved so well. We learnt lots about how hard farmers work and how they care for their different animals. We were lucky enough to even hold some of the farm animals! In the afternoon, we walked through the beautiful fields to the woods. We went on a hunt for wild animals and even collected some mini beasts! |

23.06.25 In Art this week we have been exploring colour. We discussed an artist called James Rizzi and spoke about what colours he uses in his work. We then used our knowledge of primary and secondary colours to paint a colour wheel in our sketchbooks. |

20.06.25 This week we have been learning about position and direction in Maths. We have played games to help us learn about left and right and forwards and backwards. |
05.06.25 We were super excited this morning to find out our superhero drawings are going to be published in a book! We even got a certificate, sticker and a bookmark. What amazing artists we have in Orange Class! |

14.03.25 - Science Week
Year 1 thoroughly enjoyed Science Week and were very excited to be doing some fun experiments! This year, the focus was 'Change and Adapt' and children were able to explain the changes that happened in each of our experiments. We made rain clouds, did the rainbow skittles experiment and enjoyed watching what happened when mentos were added to coke! What a fun week of learning! |

10.03.25 - Science Week This week is Science week and the focus this year is Change and Adapt. We joined Yellow class to watch a live video from the NFU. We learnt about the different ways farmers fight climate change and the sustainable energy sources they use on the farm. We enjoyed seeing and learning all about the different animals and how farmers recycle waste on the farm. We particularly liked seeing the chicks and sheep! |
06.03.25 - World Book Day
Orange class loved wearing our pyjamas and cosy clothes for World Book Day. In the morning, we had different teachers come in to our classroom and read a variety of different books. Before lunch, we designed and made our own potato characters. In the afternoon, we watched KS2 perform their McGrammar inspired raps – we thought they were brilliant! To end the day, we designed our own bookmarks, made Gruffalo masks and decorated our own book cover. |
||
04.03.25 Orange class loved celebrating Pancake Day this week. We got to choose our own toppings and they were delicious... what a treat! |

In Orange Class this week we had a very special visitor who came to deliver a workshop to Year 1 based on the topic 'Childhood' that we learnt about in History last term. The focus of the workshop was 'toys from the past' and children enjoyed making their own thaumatrope toy and also got the chance to play with a range of different toys and get into character by dressing up! |

October 2024
10.10.24 Today we had some very exciting visitors from Carymoor who came to do a workshop with us about the 3Rs 'Reduce, Reuse, Recycle'. We had lots of fun taking on the role of 'eco pirates' and took part in some activities, including rubbish sorting and looking at new objects that had been made out of recyclable materials such as, metal, plastic etc. This workshop also helped to consolidate our recent learning about materials in science. |
||
08.10.24 Year 1 started learning about parts and wholes in maths this week. To introduce this we looked at lots of different pictures discussing what a whole looks like and what parts are. After this we played a game where we had to match up the pictures (parts) to make the whole. To conclude our first lesson, we had a cheeky treat! Miss Keating gave us all a whole digestive biscuit which we had to break in half to show two equal parts. Then of course we had to eat it afterwards – what a treat!! |

30.09.24 In Art, Year 1 have been learning about primary and secondary colours. We started by reading the book 'Mix it up!' by Hervé Tullet. This helped us to identify the primary and secondary colours and observe basic colour mixing theory. We had lots of fun exploring different ways to apply the paint to the paper! |
||
03.09.24 Settling in to Year 1! The children have settled in really well to Orange Class and we have had a busy first few weeks full of lots of learning! In maths we have been learning about place value within 10 and in English we have been learning about our first book this year – ‘Naughty Bus.’ We have been able to get outside lots in between our learning. The children have particularly enjoyed drawing with chalk in our outdoor area, enjoying the last of the sunshine! |
