OUR VISION

Our curriculum allows for all children to access a wide range of musical genres, styles and periods through listening and participation. The genres we cover are wide reaching and include World Music and music with a purpose. Within the Foundation Stage, music is a helpful basis to teach through phonic songs, nursery rhymes and counting songs.

Skills of musical analysis and description are built on progressively throughout the school, creating a thorough knowledge of the inter-related dimensions of music including pitch, tempo, dynamics, texture, timbre, duration and structure. Alongside this, we teach musical notations, allowing children to understand how songs are created in written form.

The main aim of music at Primrose is enjoyment and inclusivity. Everyone can participate in music and we want to give children the confidence to try, participate and succeed within this creative world.  Music is remarkable and we want to pass the enjoyment that can be felt around music onto our children which they can carry throughout their lives.

WHAT MAKES US MUSCIANS?

  • Performing, listening and evaluating music from a range of historical periods, genres and traditions.
  • Understanding how music is formed using pitch, dynamics, tempo, texture and structure. We can understand how these affect the sound we hear and note these and other musical notations on written music.
  • Using our voices to express a wide range of emotions to allow us to tell a story. We can do this on our own or in a group.
  • Learning to play different instruments and creating and composing our own music for ourselves and others to enjoy.
